VANCOUVER, British Columbia(AP) British Columbia's highest court says Vancouver Olympic officials had no power to include women's ski jumping in the 2010 Winter Games so they could not be found to be violating athletes' rights.
A group of women ski jumpers lost an appeal last week of a lower court ruling that allowed organizers to hold a men's ski jumping competition but not a women's event - something the women argued violates Canada's Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

V ancouver Olympic officials have no power to include women's ski jumping in the 2010 Olympics, so they can't be found to be violating the athletes' rights, British Columbia's highest court says.
The B.C. Appeal Court dismissed the jumpers' case last week, but the reasons for the unanimous decision weren't released until Friday.

So Olympic events are determined by the International Olympic Committee, which is beyond the reach of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms ( B.C. Court Shoots Down Women Ski Jumpers' Appeal To Compete In 2010 Games – Nov. 14), and ski jumping is the only Winter Olympic sport restricted to men.
What can Canada do?
For starters, the Canadian men's ski jumping team should boycott the event.
